Comox Valley Flyfishers: Courtenay & Comox Fly Fishing Community
The Comox Valley Flyfishers (CVFF) is a welcoming, social angling society dedicated entirely to the sport, craft, and camaraderie of fly fishing. Established in March 1994 in Courtenay by a group of iconic Vancouver Island outdoorspeople—including Ralph Shaw, Bob Jones, and Rory Glennie—the club brings together fly fishers of all skill levels across Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, and the broader Comox Valley region.
Founded specifically as a social club where members leave fisheries politics at the door, the club focuses on sharing local fishing spots, river and saltwater beach tactics, fly tying patterns, and casting systems in a friendly, supportive environment.
Why Join the Comox Valley Flyfishers?
The club provides rich educational opportunities, hands-on workshops, and organized outings to help members elevate their technical skills on Central Vancouver Island waters:
- Regular Meetings & Fly Tying: Gather twice monthly (September through June) in the basement meeting room of Native Sons Hall in Courtenay for dedicated instructional fly tying sessions and general meetings with guest speakers and tactical presentations.
- Organized Member “Fish-Outs”: Participate in group fishing trips targeting local lakes, rivers, and salt beaches—from saltwater beach casting for Pink and Coho salmon to sea-run cutthroat trout outings and special BC interior lake excursions.
- Casting Clinics & Skill Building: Access hands-on instruction covering single-hand fly casting, Spey casting systems, leader construction, and “on river” casting lessons.
- Youth Education & Habitat Stewardship: Volunteer alongside local school programs to teach youth fly tying and support salmonid enhancement initiatives across Comox Valley watersheds.
