For each visitor to our websites, our Web servers log the IP address of the computer the visitor is using to view our Web pages, as well as the referring URL. We routinely collect information on what pages they access or visit. This information is used for internal review and to improve the content of our websites. We only collect personal information (including contact and email information) that is willingly provided by visitors to our websites.
The Compass Media Publishing online store website (hosted by WPEngine) collects information about customers, including purchase and contact information, and securely provides it to Compass Media Publishing, Inc., which is solely responsible for its use. We only use that information to complete a transaction requested by a customer. Every transaction conducted at the Compass Media Publishing online store website is encrypted for the customers’ protection. Stripe handles the financial transactions.
Your Information / Personal Data
Each time you request information from us, subscribe to an electronic newsletter, subscribe to an online service or print publication, register to view/download premium content on one of our websites, or make a purchase from our online store, we request certain personal data, which may include: Full Name, Mailing/Postal Address, Email Address, Phone Number(s), Employer, and Job Title. We may also ask for additional employment demographic information including industry sector, number of employees, and company income.
We use personal data you submit to us to complete transactions such as subscription fulfillment. We may share your personal data with sponsors of premium content, and webinars, so that they may extend you offers based on your consent. Third parties who purchase the personal information you supplied to us will not resell it unless you have received explicit notice and an opportunity to opt-out of further sales.
We may also include you in our email mailing lists. We will request your consent to send you email via these lists. We may use these mailing lists or your information or for internal marketing and promotional purposes to occasionally notify you of Compass Media Publishing, Inc. products and services we think will interest you. We may also send you email on behalf of our sponsors. If you don’t wish to receive such notifications and offers from CMP, you can request to be removed from our mailing lists. Every email message sent to mailing lists maintained by Compass Media Publishing, Inc. contains a link to automatically unsubscribe from the list or lists, to which the email was sent. CPM uses Mailchimp to deliver newsletters and email offers.
For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), our lawful bases for processing the personal data of EU individuals are Contract, Legitimate Interest, and Consent. In the case of accepting your registration and payment to subscribe to one of our publications, we process your personal data in order to fulfil our contractual obligations to you. In some cases, we use legitimate interest as a lawful basis for processing your data, including sharing of your personal data with sponsors of our premium content, webinars, and conferences so that they may extend you offers of interest. We define ‘legitimate interest’ as providing you with additional useful information on related products and services that we or our sponsors provide, based on the interests you have expressed by downloading sponsored premium content or viewing sponsored webinars.
You have the right to access, update, delete, or request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Compass Media Publishing, Inc. is required to disclose personal information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.
Access to Specific Information and Data Portability Rights
You have the right to request that we disclose certain information to you about our collection and use of your personal information over the past 12 months. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumer request (see Exercising Access, Data Portability, and Deletion Rights), we will disclose to you:
- The categories of personal information we collected about you.
- The categories of sources for the personal information we collected about you.
- Our business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling that personal information.
- The categories of third parties with whom we share that personal information.
- The specific pieces of personal information we collected about you (also called a data portability request).
- If we sold or disclosed your personal information for a business purpose, two separate lists disclosing:
- sales, identifying the personal information categories that each category of recipient purchased; and
- disclosures for a business purpose, identifying the personal information categories that each category of recipient obtained.
Note: We do not provide these access and data portability rights for B2B personal information.
Deletion Request Rights
You have the right to request that we delete any of your personal information that we collected from you and retained, subject to exceptions. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable consumer request, we will delete (and direct our service providers to delete) your personal information from our records, unless an exception applies. We may deny your deletion request if retaining the information is necessary for us or our service provider(s) to: Complete the transaction for which we collected the personal information, provide a good or service that you requested, take actions reasonably anticipated within the context of our ongoing business relationship with you, fulfill the terms of a written warranty or product recall conducted in accordance with federal law, or otherwise perform our contract with you. Detect security incidents, protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, or prosecute those responsible for such activities. Debug products to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality. Exercise free speech, ensure the right of another consumer to exercise their free speech rights, or exercise another right provided for by law. Comply with the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Cal. Penal Code § 1546 et. seq.). Engage in public or peer-reviewed scientific, historical, or statistical research in the public interest that adheres to all other applicable ethics and privacy laws, when the information’s deletion may likely render impossible or seriously impair the research’s achievement, if you previously provided informed consent. Enable solely internal uses that are reasonably aligned with consumer expectations based on your relationship with us. Comply with a legal obligation. Make other internal and lawful uses of that information that are compatible with the context in which you provided it.

Exercising Access, Data Portability, and Deletion Rights

Only you, or someone legally authorized to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable consumer request related to your personal information. You may only make a verifiable consumer request for access or data portability twice within a 12-month period. The verifiable consumer request must: Provide sufficient information that allows us to reasonably verify you are the person about whom we collected personal information or an authorized representative, which may include requests for confirmation of identity by sending you an email at your email address that is on file with us, or providing proof of identify, such as a driver’s license. Describe your request with sufficient detail that allows us to properly understand, evaluate, and respond to it. We cannot respond to your request or provide you with personal information if we cannot verify your identity or authority to make the request and confirm the personal information relates to you. Making a verifiable consumer request does not require you to create an account with us. We will only use personal information provided in a verifiable consumer request to verify the requestor’s identity or authority to make the request.
Response Timing and Format
We endeavor to respond to a verifiable consumer request within forty-five (45) days of its receipt. If we require more time (up to [45/90] days), we will inform you of the reason and extension period in writing.
If you have an account with us, we will deliver our written response to that account. If you do not have an account with us, we will deliver our written response by mail or electronically, at your option.
Any disclosures we provide will only cover the 12-month period preceding the verifiable consumer request’s receipt. The response we provide will also explain the reasons we cannot comply with a request, if applicable. For data portability requests, we will select a format to provide your personal information that is readily useable and should allow you to transmit the information from one entity to another entity without hindrance.
We do not charge a fee to process or respond to your verifiable consumer request unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that the request warrants a fee, we will tell you why we made that decision and provide you with a cost estimate before completing your request.
Personal Information Sales Opt-Out and Opt-In Rights
You have the right to direct us to not sell your personal information at any time (the “right to opt-out”). Consumers who opt-in to personal information sales may opt-out of future sales at any time. Once you make an opt-out request, we will wait at least twelve (12) months before asking you to reauthorize personal information sales. However, you may change your mind and opt back in to personal information sales at any time by registering to download a sponsored White Paper or other sponsored content, or registering to attend a Webinar, and answering any specific opt-in questions presented during the registration process.
You do not need to create an account with us to exercise your opt-out rights. We will only use personal information provided in an opt-out request to review and comply with the request.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your (US) CCPA rights. Unless permitted by the CCPA or SB 220, we will not: Deny you goods or services. Charge you different prices or rates for goods or services, including through granting discounts or other benefits, or imposing penalties. Provide you a different level or quality of goods or services. Suggest that you may receive a different price or rate for goods or services or a different level or quality of goods or services. However, we may offer you certain financial incentives permitted by the CCPA or SB. 220 that can result in different prices, rates, or quality levels. Any CCPA or SB 220-permitted financial incentive we offer will reasonably relate to your personal information’s value and contain written terms that describe the program’s material aspects. Participation in a financial incentive program requires your prior opt in consent, which you may revoke at any time.
On many of the pages of our websites you will see ‘social buttons’. These enable users to share or bookmark the web pages. There may be buttons for: Twitter, Facebook’s ‘Like’, LinkedIn’s ‘Share’, YouTube, or others. In order to implement these buttons, and connect them to the relevant social networks and external sites, there are scripts from domains outside of Compass Media Publishing, Inc.’s. You should be aware that these sites are likely to be collecting information about what you are doing all around the internet, including on our websites.
So if you click on any of these buttons, these sites will be registering that action and may use that information. In some cases, these sites will be registering the fact that you are visiting our websites, and the specific pages you are on, even if you don’t click on the button if you are logged into their services, like Google and Facebook. You should check the respective policies of each of these sites to see how exactly they use your information and to find out how to opt out, or delete, such information.

At times, your access to conference registration is protected by a password for your privacy and security. You must prevent unauthorized access to your account and personal information by protecting your password and/or other sign-on mechanism appropriately and limiting access to your computer or device and browser.
