A celebrated spring tradition targeting early-run Chinook at the mouth of Quatsino Sound. Featuring rugged West Coast ocean action, community hospitality, and cash prizes for top fish.

Recent 2026 Derby Results & Highlights
Through our Derby Dividend series, we celebrate the voluntary fundraising power of coastal tournaments. Here is a look back at recent milestone derbies and the enhancement dollars they produced:
SEPTEMBER 5–6, 2026
30th Anniversary Juan de Fuca Fishing Tournament
Staged out of Pedder Bay Marina, the 30th annual milestone welcomed 560 anglers and raised an incredible $80,000+ for salmon enhancement[cite: 1, 2]. Veteran angler Brian Stewart secured 1st place and the $30,000 grand prize with a 28.88 lb Chinook after 30 consecutive years of competing[cite: 1, 2].

🐟 Community Impact: $80,000 directed to CWT tagging machines, Cowichan & Goldstream hatcheries, plus $2,600 and fresh salmon meals for the Sooke Food Bank[cite: 1, 2].
SEPTEMBER 6–7, 2026
Silva Bay Fishing Derby
Founded in 1991, the iconic Silva Bay classic on Gabriola Island saw all top-10 Chinooks top 20 pounds. Tristan Harwood took 1st place with a 26.36 lb Chinook as 250 anglers helped generate an estimated $8,500 for the Nanaimo River Hatchery.

🐟 Community Impact: Proceeds, donated charters, and 50/50 draws directly support salmon rebuilding through the Nanaimo River Salmonid Enhancement Society.
SEPTEMBER 5–7, 2026
Port Alberni Salmon Festival Derby
A Labour Day staple since 1972 on the Alberni Inlet, Stamp, and Somass river systems. Anglers competed for over $45,000 in cash and daily prizes alongside family festival grounds and community salmon barbecues.
📍 Location: Port Alberni / Alberni Inlet
🐟 Cause: All net proceeds back salmon enhancement and habitat restoration across the Alberni Valley watershed.

AUGUST 28–29, 2026
Westview Marina Salmon Derby
Two big days of world-class Tahsis Chinook fishing and dockside festivities in Nootka Sound. Over its long history, this event has raised more than $850,000 to fund local hatchery production and watershed restoration.
