What will the new DFO Minister have to say?
In 2021, the former Minister of Fisheries, Oceans & the Canadian Coast Guard (DFO) minister, Bernadette Jordan, announced a $647-million, 5-year initiative to reverse Pacific salmon declines, and put them back on the road to recovery. At that time, there was little in the way of details provided about the exact usage of these funds.

On December 2, 2021, from 1:00 to 3:00PM Pacific time, a live webcast will be presented by the Sport Fishing Institute of BC (SFI) and high-level speakers, including the Honorable Joyce Murray, DFO Minister. It’s expected that attendees will be, “hearing insights and details about activities planned and underway that will benefit the implementation of the PSSI and the public fishery in BC.”
This is a free to attend live streamed event held in Zoom—there will be opportunities for public questions to be addressed.

What is the Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative (PSSI)?
According the DFO website, “Our Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative will guide a strategic and coordinated long term response to these issues, rooted in collaborative action, to stabilize and restore Pacific salmon and salmon habitat for the people, communities and ecosystems that depend upon their sustainability.”
The strategy is composed of four “pillars”

- Harvest Transformation
- Integration and Collaboration
