Basic Information

NSWS is a group of local community members, First Nations representatives, local elected representatives, biologists, industry representatives, commercial fishermen, sport fishermen, educators and stewards with one common goal: to see a healthy revival of salmon stocks to the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet watersheds.

NSWS is community-led group governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and have over 200 members from all walks of life. The Board meets monthly to discuss conservation, enhancement, restoration, assessment, stewardship and economic development pertaining to Pacific Salmon in the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet areas.

The NSWS strives to provide an inclusive and respectful community-based forum to effectively address ecological and economic issues surrounding salmon in the Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet areas.

NSWS Our projects span salmon enhancement, habitat restoration, and practical science, carried out in partnership with Indigenous Nations, industry, partners, and dedicated volunteers.

You can find NSWS involved in many types of projects in the region, all with the aim to accelerate salmon recovery. From community-volunteer fish counting and monitoring, to brood stock collection, to riparian planting, to big Tonka truck projects, we are out here – working for salmon.

NSWS is grateful to our First Nation partners, industry partners, volunteers, passionate Board, funders, donors, and supporters for the opportunity to work together to make a difference for salmon for generations to come.
