Mid-Island Castaways Fly Fishing Club: Parksville & Qualicum Beach
The Mid-Island Castaways Fly Fishing Club is one of the largest and most active non-profit fly fishing organizations on Vancouver Island. Formed in 1996 by a passionate group of local anglers, this Oceanside-based society brings together over 100 members dedicated to the sport, art, and conservation of fly fishing across Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and the surrounding Mid-Vancouver Island region.
From complete beginners picking up a fly rod for the first time to seasoned casters exploring West Coast rivers, lakes, and saltwater beaches, the club creates an inclusive, supportive environment focused on skill development, environmental stewardship, and community building.
Why Join the Mid-Island Castaways?
The club provides members with comprehensive opportunities to elevate their fly fishing knowledge and spend more time on the water throughout the year:
- Top-Tier Education & Casting Clinics: Take advantage of frequent educational workshops and seminars covering single-hand fly casting, Spey casting techniques, leader construction, and insect ecology.
- Hands-On Fly Tying Nights: Participate in regular group fly tying workshops to learn proven regional patterns for local salmon, coastal cutthroat trout, and interior lake fisheries.
- Community & Youth Involvement: Support local Oceanside events like Family Day and Beach Day, promoting youth angling, watershed awareness, and wild fish conservation.
- Organized Member Fish-Outs: Join fellow club members on group fishing trips to explore regional lakes, rivers, and salt beaches alongside experienced local anglers.
