About Owen Bird

Owen Bird is the Executive Director of the Sport Fishing Institute of British Columbia (SFI) and a provincial fishery policy contributor for Island Fisherman Magazine. Representing over 300,000 licensed tidal anglers and the coastal businesses supporting British Columbia’s public fishery, Owen frequently provides expert testimony before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (FOPO). A leading advocate for mass marking and mark-selective fisheries (MSF), modern digital catch monitoring via the Fishing BC app, and scientific catch-and-release research, his writing addresses federal fishery access policy, rockfish descender conservation, killer whale foraging interaction science, and coastal resource stewardship.
