Mustang Survival Women’s Taku Waterproof Bib and Jacket

As far as marine outwear and lifejackets are concerned, there is no more recognizable brand on the west coast of Canada (and beyond) than Mustang Survival’s seahorse. Rightly so, too. Headquartered in Vancouver BC, and “obsessing for the last 50 years,” this is the only brand we can think of that successfully bridges commercial, sail, and power cultures. As 2023 marks their 55th year, they’ve made an interesting video we’ve included…

We are talking about a company that caters to Navy Seals, offshore sailing racers, paddle sports, and yes, angling. Here’s a company that has its own science lab and even tests their products in the Fraser River and the Pacific Ocean. If you are looking for outerwear that meets the demands of our west coast environment, there’s really no need to look any further than Mustang Survival.

Women’s Taku Waterproof Bib and Jacket

Though the men’s Taku is similar, we wanted to highlight the women’s outerwear for the bib’s well-placed low- profile chest pockets and lightweight, snag-free material with reinforced knees. Two well placed D-rings for gear attachments are thoughtful additions, especially for angling. MarineSpec SP is Mustang’s three-layer fabric system that’s waterproof and windproof, yet offers exceptional breathability. We do recommend fitting for size in store, and if you find the women’s XL too small for all your layers, consider the men’s—in terms of style, they’re really unisex. Especially for tidal fishing, this outwear is up to the challenge of handling trophy salmon or hauling in halibut over the side of the boat without worrying about snags or messes—it handles saltwater and abrasion like a champ. You’ll never worry about the elements on deck, and it will last you plenty of seasons.
