Salmon Fishing Survival Rally: A Community Town Hall

Salmon Fishing Survival Rally Town Hall

    Basic Information

The Future of Your Fishery is at Stake

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is currently conducting a critical review of the 1999 Salmon Allocation Policy (SAP). This policy dictates who gets access to salmon on the BC coast, and the proposed changes could have a lasting impact on recreational anglers, local guides, and coastal communities.

Join the South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition (SVIAC) and the Public Fishery Alliance (PFA) for the Salmon Fishing Survival Rally. This community rally is designed to break down the bureaucratic jargon and show you exactly how these changes affect your right to fish.

    • πŸ•™ TIME: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Noon)

    What We Will Discuss

This rally is a call to action for the BC fishing community. Our experts will provide updates on:

    • Salmon Allocation Policy: How the DFO review threatens public access.
    • Chinook Closures: Proposed “Closed to Chinook Fishing” regulations for 2026 and beyond.
    • Southern Resident Killer Whales: Salmon fisheries management updates.
    • Fraser Summer 5-2 Chinook: The potential negative impact of re-allocation on South Vancouver Island anglers.

    Featured Speakers

Hear three short but excellent presentations followed by an open question period:

    • Jesse Zeman – BC Wildlife Federation
    • Martin Paish – Sport Fishing Institute of BC
    • Andrew Purdey – Mill Bay Marine Group

“If you value your opportunity to catch a salmon in British Columbia, your presence at this rally is vital. We need to show the DFO that the public fishery is united.”
